Ashley Dalton MP celebrates the next wave of free breakfast clubs Labour is opening in West Lancashire.
Local children at seven schools in the constituency will benefit from the government’s breakfast clubs policy, building on the first two clubs which opened in West Lancashire last year. In November 2025, Ashley Dalton wrote to eligible primary schools to encourage them to apply to the next wave of free breakfast clubs, which will begin in April 2026. The Government has selected seven schools in West Lancashire to be part of the next wave.
Delivering on a pledge in Labour’s election manifesto to ensure all state primary schools offer free breakfast clubs to all pupils, this wave has added 2000 additional schools to the existing number giving free breakfast to its students. In the North West, 392,022 free breakfasts have been served as part of the policy so far.
This comes after Government policies to eradicate child poverty, including the 2025 budget commitments to lift the two-child benefit cap and expanding free childcare to 30 hours per week. In West Lancashire, parents are estimated to save £6,400 from the childcare expansion, freeing up vital funds for essential needs for their children.
Ashley Dalton, MP for West Lancashire says:
“This is fantastic news for children and families in West Lancashire. More primary school children will have a guaranteed breakfast before starting their day of learning – something that’s vital to concentration and wellbeing.
“Last year, Mahirishi Free School and Burscough Village Primary School were two of the schools to receive the first Government-funded free breakfast clubs.
“I’ve heard firsthand from parents whose children have been attending the clubs of the huge impact this has had on their children’s concentration, happiness and the parents’ abilities to juggle their demands of childcare, home life and work.”
